My friend’s teacher in Nursing School was a nurse also going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.  She told her students that they should listen carefully in her lectures—that no one else was so uniquely positioned to share with them what it is to be a patient receiving treatments while also understanding what it is like to be the nurse who provides the medicine.  Maybe in reading my poems you will find I name something for you that you are feeling but haven't had language to articulate before now.
